what this is
this is a long-running, non-commercial research project to study the internet by continually scanning the entire public IPv4 address space for certain ports.
all scanning is conducted solely to gather information. nothing ever attempts to log in to services or gain authenticated entry to any system.
what this does
this scanner sends a single connection request (a TCP SYN) to a small, fixed set of ports, and, where a service answers, reads only the banner it voluntarily returns (such as a software name and version) along with public metadata about the service. this is not a DoS attack.
scan frequency & ranges
scanning ips have a PTR record and a redirect on port 80 to this FAQ. scanning is continuously conducted across a wide range of ip addresses and ASNs, and i do not scan the ipv6 space. if you would rather not be scanned, please use the button above.
privacy
this page serves as the privacy notice for the project. ip addresses can be personal data under the GDPR, and they are processed here on the basis of legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f), non-commercial security-measurement research conducted in a minimal, non-intrusive way, with a working opt-out). you may request access to, objection to, or erasure of data relating to your addresses using the contact details below. all scanning conducted is legal in all jurisdictions i operate in.
if you run a scanned service and reached this page, it likely means your service is reachable from the public internet. that is worth reviewing regardless of this project. consider firewalling the port, enabling authentication, or binding the service to a private interface.
